Strategy & Setups
Understand how chart views, signal-source candles and higher-timeframe reference context work together. Learn to read the indicator without confusing context with a new trading signal.
The viewing configurations and study workflows below do not establish a tested entry/exit method, profitability claim or automated trade action. The PRO indicator displays analysis; it does not place or manage trades.
Three different timeframe roles
Chart timeframe
The candles currently displayed on your MT5 chart.
Signal timeframe
The source candles on which Calabash calculates its signals.
Alignment reference
A higher timeframe used to describe context when a source signal is confirmed.
Example: M15 chart / H1 signal / H4 alignment
Open an M15 chart, set Signal Timeframe to H1 and leave Alignment Reference on Current (automatic higher). The H1 arrows are mapped onto the M15 chart, and the panel describes H4 context at confirmation. Smaller chart candles do not transform H1-source signals into M15 signals.
For H1 source signals, the automatic reference is H4; for H4 it is D1. The reference follows the signal timeframe, not the chart timeframe. When Signal Timeframe is Current, the source first resolves to the chart timeframe.
What “At Confirmation” means
The indicator compares the close of the last eligible completed reference candle available at source-signal confirmation with that candle's Primary Oscillator. The resulting label is retained for the signal. It is historical context at confirmation, not a continuously refreshed trend reading or a separate higher-timeframe Calabash BUY/SELL signal.
ALIGNED
Reference context agrees with the source signal direction.
CONFLICT
Reference context opposes the source signal direction.
UNKNOWN / OFF
UNKNOWN covers equality, unavailable data or unsupported references; OFF means the feature is disabled.
Alignment is informational. It does not suppress arrows, modify the underlying signal engine or independently authorise trades. Source signals follow the existing confirmed closed-bar / next-source-opening-quote rules.
Six supported viewing configurations
| View | Chart | Signal source | Automatic reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple hourly | H1 | H1 | H4 |
| Hourly signal close-up | M15 | H1 | H4 |
| Four-hour signal close-up ★ OUR FAVOURITE | H1 | H4 | D1 |
| Direct four-hour | H4 | H4 | D1 |
| Shorter source study | M5 | M15 | M30 |
| Daily source overview | H4 | D1 | W1 |
Start with Simple Hourly, then Hourly Signal Close-up. These show the same H1-source events from different chart views, not two independent confirmations. Use explicit source settings: Signal=Current follows the chart. The chart timeframe must be at or below the signal source. Monthly signal/reference scope is unsupported.
Three study workflows
A. Alignment-first study
Identify a confirmed source signal, then record its ALIGNED, CONFLICT, UNKNOWN or OFF label and confirmation time. Classify it for study, not as an automatic trade instruction.
B. Wait through disagreement
Observe an H1 BUY conflicting with bearish H4 context. A later qualifying H1 SELL may have its own aligned assessment, but it might never occur. WAIT is a proposed manual study choice, not a new engine verdict.
C. Separate-chart correction study
Compare independently labelled H4, H1 and optional M15 source instances. Do not mistake an H4 alignment badge on an H1 event for an actual H4 Calabash signal.
Countertrend reading: a careful example
An H1 BUY against bearish H4 context can represent a correction or the start of a larger change; the label does not decide which. A later independently qualifying M15 SELL may agree with the older H4 context, but does not prove that the H1 correction has ended. Compare source and confirmation timestamps, and independently re-check the current higher-timeframe view.
An M15 chart displaying H1-source arrows does not also generate separate M15-source events in the same instance. Use a separate M15-source chart or instance if that is what you want to study. Its automatic alignment reference is M30, unless a supported manual reference is selected.
The supplied v1.11 supplement identifies bounded genuine EURUSD July 2025 historical-display acceptances for H4-chart/H4-source and H1-chart/H4-source only. Other configurations listed here are supported viewing arrangements, not newly demonstrated native runtime or strategy-performance passes. No new tests or builds were performed for this guide.
Before turning observations into a trading setup
A formal strategy needs separately approved signal validity and expiry, trigger sequence, disagreement handling, entry and invalidation rules, exit and risk controls, and reproducible testing. No new thresholds, confluence scores, confidence percentages or autonomous trading functions are introduced by this page.

Manual Entry and Automated Management
Observed BUY example: the trader selected a EURUSD demand order block and placed the trade manually. The trader reports that the separate 500 Calabash EA managed the target and trailing protection; exact management events and exit triggers have not been independently established.
Illustrative SELL example: study a qualifying supply or resistance setup, make an independent manual decision, and examine how EA management could operate. This is not a documented historical SELL trade.
Product distinction: The 500 Calabash PRO indicator displays analysis and signals; the separate 500 Calabash EA performs trade management.
